I like working with organisations and movements over the long-term, contributing to strengthening their advocacy, deepening their coalitions and sharpening their research and analysis. However, I also think shorter engagements are the best way to start – to see if the values, approaches and resources we bring to the issue fit well together.
I’m currently working with organisations in three ways:
Springboard
I love the start of new campaigns or projects – the process of looking at what we already know, and engaging people to think about what might be possible, and then thinking about what would be needed to make that possibility a reality.
The Springboard brings my process and energy to help you start something new in the best possible way.
Often, organizations or teams can be trying to take their advocacy in a new direction or know that a piece of research is needed but don’t really have the space to step back and do the work to make sure the foundations are solid. We’ve all seen it – a new campaign without power analysis, a new strategy without drawing on the wisdom of staff or partners, a poorly framed piece of research that goes nowhere or tells us nothing.
The Springboard can help you start on your new direction with a clearer strategy or a set of clearly defined options for your contribution.
Ongoing engagements
I love working with movements and organisations over the long term to contribute to something we jointly believe in. I’ve worked this way for organizations like The B Team, where, as a consultant I built an initiative with significant track record and resourcing; and for Rhize, where I dove in to lead on some research and advised on others.
My ongoing engagements come in packages where I provide a certain number of hours per month. When I engage in this way, I’m also pro-active, providing your organization or movement with ideas, connections and new thinking.
Larger projects
I also take on larger projects – leading pieces of research or advocacy work – when I am passionate about the issue and believe I can truly contribute. In the past I have developed coalitions between civil society and academics, and civil society and progressive business, led advocacy, and developed research that has genuinely influenced thinking, policy and practice.
